How We Met
&
Our story started in October 2019, at the very end of a fundraiser in Oakland hosted by our friend Darlington. We almost missed each other, it was a quick introduction as the night was wrapping up. We talked for a bit, exchanged numbers, and left knowing we wanted to see each other again.
A few days later, we had our first date at Townhouse in Emeryville. The conversation came easily from the start. We talked about our roots in Ethiopia and Haiti, growing up in big families—ten siblings and all, and the experiences that shaped who we are. Even though we were raised in different places, Vermont and Connecticut, it quickly felt like we had a lot in common.
It didn’t take long to realize we balance each other well—one of us can talk to anyone, anywhere, while the other is more selective and perfectly content keeping things a little quieter.
Not long after, the world shut down. What started as something new quickly became something steady. That time gave us the space to really get to know one another and showed us how much we share—our values, our sense of responsibility to family, and what matters most.
We’re so grateful for that brief “hello” that night in Oakland—and to Darlington for bringing us into the same room. It changed everything for us, we can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you.
